1. Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Poise (the “Service”), operated by Poise. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Poise.
2. What Poise Does
Poise is a budgeting application that connects to your bank accounts through Plaid on a read-only basis, and uses your transaction history to draft and maintain a budget automatically. Poise is a planning tool, not a bank, and cannot move money or make payments on your behalf.
3. Eligibility & Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use Poise. You’re responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account. Let us know right away if you suspect unauthorised access.
4. Free Trial & Billing
New accounts get 14 days of full access, free, with no credit card required to start. If you’d like to keep using Poise after the trial, you can add a payment method from Settings — nothing is charged automatically, and if you don’t add one, your account simply moves to a paused state rather than being billed. There is nothing to cancel if you decide not to continue.
If you do subscribe, you can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing. Cancelling stops future billing; your data remains available until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
5. Household & Shared Accounts
If you invite others into a household, each person keeps their own login, but shares visibility into the combined budget and the accounts included in it. The account holder who set up billing is responsible for the subscription; removing a household member does not automatically affect billing.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Poise for anything illegal, fraudulent, or harmful
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or disrupt the Service
- Share your account with people outside your household, or resell access
- Use another person’s bank credentials or financial data without authorisation
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Bank Connections & Third Parties
Bank connections are provided through Plaid and are subject to your bank’s and Plaid’s own terms as well. Poise isn’t responsible for outages, errors, or changes on the part of your bank or Plaid that are outside our control.
8. Not Financial Advice
Poise is a budgeting tool, not a financial advisor. Insights, categorisations, and suggestions are provided for informational purposes and don’t constitute financial, tax, or legal advice. You’re responsible for your own financial decisions.
9. Intellectual Property
Poise, its design, and its underlying software belong to us. Your financial data and the content you provide belong to you — using Poise doesn’t transfer ownership of your data to us.
10. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Poise is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited under applicable law.
11. Termination
You can stop using Poise and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if these Terms are violated, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where reasonably possible.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms as Poise evolves. We’ll update the date above, and let you know about material changes by email or in-app notice. Continuing to use Poise after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
